Share your images · the heart of Only Cells

Every picture here started as someone’s film.

The Library, the Cell & Parasite Identifier and the courses are built from real blood films. Share yours, with no patient details, and ring the cells you know. Once an Only Cells biomedical scientist has checked it, it joins the Library with your name as the credit.

How it works

From your microscope to the Library

About five minutes for your first film. Everything is checked before it goes public.

  1. 1

    Sign in and agree

Use your Only Cells account (or make one free). Read the short contributor terms once and set up two-step sign-in.

  2. 2

    Upload a film

A photo of a field, with the stain and objective. Any camera is fine, including a phone held to the eyepiece. No names, numbers or dates on the picture.

  3. 3

    Ring the cells

Tap each cell you can name and choose its name from the list. You don’t have to ring everything: ten sure cells beat fifty unsure ones.

  4. 4

    Checked, then published

An Only Cells biomedical scientist reviews every picture and ring. Once accepted, it shows “📷 Shared by” and your credit. Your email address is never shown.

No account, or just a few pictures? Use the quick share form below and we will do the ringing.

Coming later

A leaderboard of the people who share the most films and ring the most cells is planned.

Nobody will be listed unless they choose to be. When it starts, contributors will be asked first.

Contributor terms

What you agree to when you contribute

Short on purpose. You agree to them once, at Become a contributor. Pictures sent with the quick form above are covered by its three ticks.

  1. The pictures are yours to share. You took them, or the person who did has given you permission, and your employer allows you to share anonymised pictures for education.
  2. No one can be identified. No names, hospital or lab numbers, dates of birth, barcodes or slide labels are visible in a picture, and you won’t add them in your notes or labels. Keep clinical details general (for example “a man in his 60s”). If a picture shows something that could identify a patient, it is not published.
  3. You keep your copyright. You give Only Cells a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to publish, crop, brighten, label and use the pictures and your labels on onlycells.co.uk, in its tools and courses, and in its teaching material. The licence carries on after you stop contributing, except as in point 6.
  4. Everything is checked first. Every picture and label is reviewed before anything is published, and may be changed, or not used. The Library is for education: it is not used to diagnose or treat patients.
  5. Credit as you choose. Pictures that are published show your name, your public username or no name, as you choose here. You can change this in your account at any time. Your email address is never shown.
  6. You can stop at any time. Ask for your pictures to be taken off the website and they will be, usually within 14 days. Pictures already used in a course stay until that course is next updated.
  7. Keep your account safe. Contributing needs two-step sign-in with an authenticator app. Only Cells may pause or end contributor access, for example if these terms are not kept.
