Accessibility statement
This statement covers the Only Cells website at onlycells.co.uk: Morphology Monthly, the Laboratory toolkit, the Library, posts, the shop and your account.
What you can expect
We want everyone who works in or is training for the laboratory to be able to use Only Cells. On this website you should be able to:
- use every page, menu, calculator and tool with a keyboard alone, as well as with a mouse or touch screen. A “Skip to main content” link is the first thing on every page, and focus is always visible;
- use a screen reader: pages have headings and landmarks, form fields and buttons have labels, and pictures have text alternatives;
- read text and controls that meet the WCAG 2.2 contrast levels in light and dark mode;
- zoom to 200% and read pages at 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways. Wide tables and bench layouts scroll inside their own box, which you can reach with the keyboard;
- stop animations: the moving cells, lab gear and background lines stop when your device is set to reduce motion, and each one can be switched off in Display settings, where you can also change the text size and choose dark mode;
- use the shop, the basket, your account and sign-in with a keyboard and screen reader.
How accessible this website is
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA. We believe the website meets that standard, apart from the limitations listed below.
The online courses have their own courses accessibility statement, which covers the lessons, activities, workbooks and certificates.
Known limitations
- Recognising cells is a visual skill. Blood film pictures in Morphology Monthly, the Library and the Cell & Parasite Identifier have text alternatives and their labelled cells are listed in words, but learning to recognise cells on a real film depends on seeing them.
- The standalone Blood Component Barcode Generator page (the full-screen version of the tool at /assets/tools/bloodbarcodes.html) has three fields without a spoken label (the expiry date and time boxes and the blood group list) and a label preview that can’t be scrolled with the keyboard. The version of the tool in the Laboratory toolkit does not have these problems.
- Videos in posts and webinars are hosted on YouTube. Some may only have YouTube’s automatic captions, which can contain mistakes.
- Payment is taken on a page provided by Stripe, and some items link to our Etsy shop. These pages are covered by their own accessibility statements.
- Screen reader testing has so far been done with automated tools and the browser’s accessibility tree. We still plan to test with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and TalkBack, and with disabled users.

How we tested
The website was last tested on 27 October 2026 by Only Cells. We checked every public page (168 pages, including every toolkit calculator, the Library, Morphology Monthly, posts and the shop) with the axe-core tool against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, in light mode, in dark mode and at phone width. We also checked with the keyboard alone that the skip link works and that focus is visible, that pages reflow at 320 pixels, and that animations stop when reduced motion is set.
This statement was prepared on 27 October 2026. We will review it at least once a year and whenever the website changes a lot.
