Gel & Blot Labeller
Label a gel or blot photo: name the lanes, mark the ladder and the sample bands, and read off estimated sizes. Download a labelled picture and the results.
Drag to move around; pinch or use + and − to zoom (Ctrl + scroll on a computer). Lanes show as dashed lines: yellow L is the ladder lane.
1Lanes
Move the first and last lanes onto your gel, then Spread evenly puts the rest between them.
2Ladder
In Bands, tap each ladder band from the top down; sizes are given in order. Change any size below if a band was missed or merged. Look up a ladder or add your own there.
3Band sizes
Mark bands in the sample lanes to see their estimated sizes.
4Labelled picture
The picture has the lane names on top, the ladder sizes down the side and the estimated size beside each band, ready for a lab book, report or assignment.
How sizes are worked out: each band’s size is read between the two nearest ladder bands, as a straight line of log(size) against distance down the gel. Bands above or below the ladder are estimated from the end bands and marked “outside the ladder” (~). Gels that smile or run unevenly give less accurate sizes.
