The meaning of ‘Hijab’ is ‘to cover’. Wearing the hijab is something that is extremely personal to me as it not only symbolises my religion and culture but also my identity as it is often the first thing that people will notice about me. This badge represents empowerment as the hijab signifies that in no way am I restricted to what I can achieve in academia, my profession and my career as a scientist.
